This following video shows the development of a ferro cement/papercrete process
I have been experimenting with these processes for years to learn how to build giant sculptural garden spaces as a work of art
This cement shed is my first completed space ...nearly
The video shows over 2 years work in one minute and 30 seconds
Over the last 2 years I have been developing the cement shed as a 'once a month Sunday afternoon hobby'
Its like I had to steal time in order to work on it
So for years I would walk out my back door and see this half finished messy project screaming for my attention
Then earlier this year - inspired by my own suggestions of exploring different materials and genres in the blog 'expand'
here is a link to 'E.X.P.A.N.D'
which comes with free printables for the process, available to use, on that linked page
anyway...I created a plethora of half finished projects and completley overwhelmed myself
It was very stressful ...
.... then I had an 'aha' moment at two in the morning with the answer to my overwhelm
....it was to completely change my personality and become a different person
become one of those people that FINISH things
....also be cleaner, lose weight, eat better, exercise blah blah blah
but one thing at a time ... and so I decided to FINISH a major project
I have quite a few on the go ... Building the Art Garden takes on many forms
because I am building the Art Garden online, as well as off
but it was very obvious that the cement shed should be my first major completion
because not only is it right outside my back door and incredibly visually obvious to me
but the final rendering of the shed is the culmination of years spent on reinventing a papercrete ferro cement process
and is the foundation of the entire Art Garden building design asthetic

The cement shed is my space for sculpting cement
its open and airy so the dust can blow through
I can make a huge mess
and it is designed to display the sculptures and bowls while they curing
because the lime cement takes at least 30 days until its ready for sealing
true curing can take up to a year
I also needed something I can film in
because I will eventually be creating courses in cement sculpting
and this is the perfect backdrop
but the main premise of the cement shed was to create an uplifted space to create art in
because I believe it will improve the art I make
surely you make better art in gorgeous spaces
the aesthetic will demand it
The ultimate vision was to have a stunning space
where I clean up after myself when Im done -
because everything is SO ORDERED that if stuff is lying around ..your compelled to put it away to get your gorgous look back
like a Marie Kondo makeover
In order to create the perfect room for myself to create in I followed the advice I created in the blog 'space'
here is a link to 'S.P.A.C.E'
which comes with free printables for the process, available to use, on that linked page
so I hope that this inpires you to spend some time improving your own area where you make your art
it really is worth the effort
