This following video shows the development of a ferro cement/papercrete process
I have been experimenting with these processes for years to learn how to build giant sculptural garden spaces as a work of art
This Glarbecube is my third space ...nearly completed
The video shows over 2 years work in one minute and 30 seconds
A 'Glarbecube' means Glamour + Barbecue and its in a cube
ergo its ... 'gla' - 'b' - 'cube'
essentially the point of the Glarbecube is to house wicking bed gardens
so you have a gorgeous sitting area inside the garden
and you can pick your lunch and eat it in the same space
but in my attempt to get the building finished before my birthday
I didnt quite get the gardens put in
As I write this blog - it is my 60th birthday
and I have been working hard on rendering this area for my party
so, while its been winter here in Australia
I have been working on using one bag of cement a day
and this is how far I got with the project so far
It has been a wonderful rythm for the day
where I get outside and work on a heavy physical project
and then I go inside and work on the web
building the Art Garden online
I hope you can see the massive improvement in my rendering skills
because in this building I used a cement trowel as a tool
as opposed to my earlier building of the cement shed - where I used my hands
you can check out the cement shed here

As I mentioned before - the main function of the glarbecube is to grow organic fresh food
but it also has many other functions
one of the features of the building design is to act as a breeze way
breaking up the hot summer winds
I invisage a glarbecube design being built attached to a house
where it would act like the extension of a verandah
and the watering of the gardens would act like a coolgardie safe
creating evaporative cooling for the house
Essentially its purpose is to be beautiful
to be an elevated space to spend our time
and to make us healthier people
Im super excited about building the Art Garden
and I hope you follow along to see the gardens activated in the design
and then Im going to start on the next sculptural building
the Yogacube
where I intend to get a lot curvier ...whoo hoo
