O K ... so I havent done this workshop EVER .. I have no photos .. and have barely explored painting big myself yet

I am finding it hard to source the enormous paper for under $50 a sheet

so it looks like I have to settle for 56 x 76cm sheets ... still pretty big

an example of the abstract watercolour patterns using botanical motifs on square watercolor wash shapes watercolour washes in a circlular format with abstract mark making shapes on them abstract watercolour patterns in pinks and blues many square watercolor wash shapes overlayed with white markmaking abstract patterns abstract mark making overlaying darker watercolour wash circles earthy indigeous pattwrns on top of hues of ochres in watercolour

The idea for this workshop started with inventing the paintbowls

all of a sudden I could use bigger brushes .. make bigger marks ...its not something you can normally do with watercolour

Then I spent the summer painting in bulk on large envelopes - sending the workshop books in them -

I call it speed painting - and the learning curve is huge .. so I knew I wanted to incorperate that into this workshop

and thats how I intend to start the day - get loosened up by getting some big marks down on 6 envelopes

Then I think the next step is painting onto 3 different A3 peices of paper ...

I dont like waste, and I dont want you to go home with art that will be put into a cupboard never to be seen again

So I will have the facilities there to be able to turn these A3 studies into A4 Notebooks

... which means folding your work in half and inserting paper ... you dont have to do it if you love your work too much

but they look FABULOUS - and then become useful ... and make great gifts

I base my 3 Bowls workshop around painting on the notebook covers and its AWESOME

These pictures above are a bit complicated - and I dont think we should base our ideas around them so much

I envisage something simpler, and easier

But by the time you have worked through some shapes and patterns on the A3 pages

Thats when you can start making the marks onto the big paper

By this point you should have practiced and developed an idea of gorgeous colours and shapes

WHO IS IT FOR ?

Anyone who wants to experience painting BIG with watercolour

...This is not something you can do anywhere else

-The cost of having just that much watercolour paint available is pretty prohibitive..maybe impossible....I invented the paintbowls to be able to do this

and you will need big boards to paint the big paper

- I am prepared to go the extra mile to make the big painting boards

because I can see in my mind how AMAZING this will be

Large scale watercolour painting ... I reckon its the next evolution in modern painting

Im pretty excited about it

.

WHATDO YOU GET ?

You dont have to bring anything - just turn up

We will work through the exercises from Mandys Watercolour Patterns Workshop Booklet on loose sheets of supplied paper - and then you get a nice clean book to take home with you.

You could either use it yourself or give to someone for a present

Then the supplied paper fits into a mount - so the goal is at the end of the day you go home with a professional mounted piece

And you get to use my brand new watercolour paint bowls THAT I HAVE MADE MYSELF - I will also have all the equipment there, to show you how to make paint in case anyone is interested in that process....cos its awesome

and you also get a cup of tea and a glass of wine if you want

so... you get

one day workshop price is $165 or do the weekend for $240

to see more about the art garden click here

Beverley is a town in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, 133 kilometres south-east of the state capital, Perth, between York and Brookton on the Great Southern Highway.

I have lived here for about 6 years now, and I love it

There are big wide streets, no traffic, and its very relaxed and laid back -

It's a small population but there are a few galleries in the main street now, with more being built

I think it's because its a great place to make art

You can drive from Beverley to Perth - depending on where you live - its about 90 minutes on average - but there are plenty of great places to stay overnight too

HOW DOES IT HAPPEN ?

This workshop is all about an easy technique that helps you to free yourself up and accept a bit of chaos on your canvas -

I spent many months working out the process and would love to share it all here with you in a series of simple steps

EASY STAGES

* This project book naturally breaks up into easily achievable stages

* It is simple and great fun - the first exercise is playing with my new hand made paint, and exploring colours together

* Then I supply the paper with some guided shapes to create the background wash of your super favourite colours-

* Then we have a break to eat lunch, where you can walk up to the local cafe, bakery or eat your own lunch in the garden

* Then we have a play around creating markmaking shapes and explore shapes in nature

* Then we put the next layers of markmaking onto the washes with all the different materials provided

* About now you are ready for a wine, coffee or tea, just to help give you a burst of energy to finish off your awesome work and get it mounted up to take home

* By the end of the day you will have learnt heaps about markmaking and watercolours- which is a wonderful addition to the skills of even an accomplished artist

* and because each element is broken down this technique will help a beginner create a complete painting

Other Workshops

Before I went completely abstract - I first became absorbed in mark making

It helped me to loosen up and realise how pleasurable art was without the boundaries of expectation

Every mark is a surprise - and there is no pressure because it can be a background that you paint over - it is a wonderful feeling

As a controlled artist for over 30 years I felt a rush of the wonder I had experienced as a young artist just learning everything, it was so exciting

Since then I have been breaking more and more boundaries and have immersed myself into abstract art - I LOVE IT - and you can do it too
